The Arts, Survival Skill 101, Many Moons Ago by TYF

Many Moons Ago...

Developing artistic skills such as painting, smoke signaling, drum beating music, writing—language literati—perpetuated civility amongst primitive persons or otherwise, isolated tribes: evolving THE ARTS was (and is) basic survival skill strategy.

Before there were cameras, televisions and radios—long before printing presses, telephones, telegraphs and tractor big wheels or harvesting machines—painting, writing, drill teaming squad and quad established a method of communicating and coordinating with people randomly at large or more specifically, to transmit information and activity instruction for persons privy to a same vein.

It still happens today: Rock & Roll, Country Western—RAP to Reggae—all that Jazz or soothing Symphony, Modern and Impressionistic... Individuals interact more readily with other persons expressing the same cultural notions of propriety and as they avoid the “tribes” (groups, gangs) from espied trails of tarnish.

Music empowered existence off the beaten path: trying to find the exact place from where the sound of  music throbs out at a wilderness area is nearly impossible, yet a rhythmic drub from seemingly nowhere still enables messaging and particular passages can exclude unwarranted listeners from those for whom the bell tolls. Music was the guidance for persons when a distance—geographical or cultural—proved too great for the voice of one alone.

The necessary skill for laboring was defined and disciplined by The Arts. Ballet dancing was off-season practice for fruit and nut picking. The Nutcracker Suite, Sugar Plum Fairy...

Orchard workers would practice ‘dance’ during the winter months to be fit for the fruit of harvest time labor: dance as a survival skill emotes experience or the hopes of experience to exude persuasion upon other persons. Jazz Dancers, Hip-Hoppers—SQUARE—space manipulative Rain Dancers: dance developed as the defense of fruits earned by labor and through a vast variety of disciplines or dance ‘techniques’ specific to distinct issues of circumstance.

Dance generates the heat and spatial vibration of electromagnetic current relative to the weather: the energetic strength of dance (dancers) was (is) the front line of defense for frightening away or dissolving the evil spirits of looming and glooming foe.

Painting, etching and sketching placed face on topics for discussion. Illustrations on cave walls and rocks were primitive news broadcasts—simple maps—and warnings against the threat of horror events like grizzle bear mauls upon those within dark and dreary territory: from treasure hunts and how to stay hot on a track, painting prospered protective navigation through the wicked wild of nature.

Illustrations—such as portrait painting—promoted social order or civility by detailing individuality: once a person’s appearance was acquainted, responsibility and accountability could manifest; primitive people learned to recognize one another from paintings as not only strangers of the night. Painting advanced hierarchy or civil obedience—cooperation—with portrayed leadership.

Written communication—even archaic symbols—determined history as a tool to support future survival: to this day... Philosophy procures through the works of playwrights and poets: learning from storied exemplars supports optimal survival by perpetuating common understanding of what is for better or worse. Literature can discredit or authorize both realistic (feasible) and unrealistic (psychotic) behavioral choice: the skill of reading justified the art form of literature as the public ground for all persons to tread because literature offers readers the freedom to decipher life meanings for (and by) themselves.

Literature quickly escalated as the greatest survival skill factor for enhancing (optimal) existence: to benefit from the written promise of edification enlightenment, persons (learn) learned to read. If the television, radio or internet failed for tomorrow, simple literature ‘art’ forms such as primitive smoke signaling or sophisticated aerospace ‘sky typing’ could relay life-saving literature to clarify how, what, where, when, who and why across the deep blue sky: a double-edged sword?

Good, bad or indifferent: The Arts cannot die. People are chronically dying but the renderings—the art forms and production bits—they relinquish to Earth civilization upon their demise signify discovery for each new generation and the evolution of identity amongst all species.

Insects and animals also display keen abilities to understand art forms: the memory of an elephant tolerates trunk sketching and a monkey can splash a canvas with colors like a true artisan. Dogs will most likely never do e-mail but dogs do recognize basic illustrations symbols such as ‘STOP’ signs: even the dumbest of all dogs can relate to a favorite food package (illustration) label. And no art form is greater than a male spider’s carefully architected web—his intricate communication of lust and readiness—to attract a female spider: Survival Skill 101.
